Puja Sarup has been working in the theatre industry for the past 18 years. She is the Co-founder of Patchwork Ensemble, a Mumbai-based theatre company, and has co-directed ‘Ila’, as part of the company.  She completed her MA in Theatre Arts from Mumbai University, after which she was associated with theatre companies based in France.

She is an awardee of the J.N. Tata Endowment scholarship for a Diploma from Helikos International School of Theatre Creation, Italy. She is also the recipient of the Vinod Doshi fellowship. Since 2003, she has been acting in plays like ‘Sex, Morality and Censorship’, ‘Sounding Vanya’, and ‘Hamlet- the Clown Prince’, for which she won the Best Supporting Actress Meta Award. Some of her path-breaking performances in theatre include her characters  – Chudail (Play: Shikaar) Joker (Play: Hamlet), Geeta Madam (Play: Hello Farmaish) and Rocky (Play: Gentlemen’s Club). She has also acted in films like ‘Sui Dhaaga’, ‘Rangoon’, ‘That Girl in Yellow Boots, ‘Haseen Dilruba’ and ‘The Sky is Pink’. Puja has been part of the DSM family since 2014. Besides acting and directing, she enjoys conducting storytelling and theatre workshops for children and adults.

Each Ekalavya course is designed to be stand-alone. If you want to pursue a career in acting and theatre, we recommend beginning with the first course, ‘Breaking Open Characters’ which deals with the most basic concept of characterization and how to approach the portrayal of different characters.

These courses provide the building blocks of study in the field of acting and theatre-making. Ekalavya courses cover foundational concepts that serve as an essential first step to launching your creative journey and your acting career.

The assignments will be reviewed by the Ekalavya team at the Drama School Mumbai as part of the criteria for successfully completing a course.
